Gabrielle Nappo
My life with clay started upon my retiring from the
corporate world in 2001. I had received a degree in arts
education in the early seventies, but went on to a career in
computer technology for 26 years. It was when I retired
that  I turned my attention back to the artistic community.
Upon moving to Naples Florida  I took classes with a
master potter at Edison Community College and enrolled in
various workshops to learn design techniques and glazing.
And then it was practice, practice, and more practice.  I
found it to be fun and challenging and the clay kept calling
me back for more.

I have a great affinity for the sea and the natural world and
many of my glazes reflect this attraction to the blues,
greens and natural tones of the environment.  Design ideas
have been inspired by the many trips I have taken overseas
visiting historical areas of different cultures. My art pieces
achieve their texture through the use of several applications
of glazes, stamping, incising and sprigging.  I fire to Cone 6
in an electric kiln using a slow cool down.  All of the
functional ware is food safe, microwave and dishwasher
safe.

What intrigues me about the craft is that I am a designer, a
craftsperson, a business manager, a chemist and a retailer.
I have fallen in love with all aspects of the process, the
throwing, trimming, hand building, firing and decorating
and I love what I do everyday.
